What we are aiming at

Premier Periodontics intends this website to be usable by everyone, including people who browse with a screen reader, navigate by keyboard alone, magnify the page, use voice control, or turn animation off.

The same applies at the offices themselves. If you need an accommodation for a visit, a communication aid, an interpreter, help getting into the building, or simply more time, tell us when you book and we will arrange it.

The standard we work to

We are working towards conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 at level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium. WCAG 2.1 AA is the standard most commonly referenced in United States accessibility practice, and it is the target this site is built and reviewed against.

We aim to meet it. We do not claim to have been certified against it, and the section below on ongoing work explains why that difference matters.

What is built into this site

The accessibility work done so far includes:

  • Semantic structure. Real headings in order, one level one heading per page, real lists, and real landmarks for the header, the navigation, the main content and the footer. A skip link is the first thing the keyboard reaches on every page and it jumps straight to the main content.
  • Keyboard operation. Every link, button, form field and expandable question can be reached and operated with the keyboard alone, in a logical order. The browser’s focus indicator is left in place rather than removed, so you can see where you are, and expandable questions are real buttons that report their open or closed state to assistive technology.
  • Reduced motion support. The site reads the operating system setting for reduced motion. When it is on, the settling sections, the sheet that lays itself down, the rule that draws across the page, the seal that presses in and the image zoom are all switched off and the content is shown in its final state.
  • Motion as an enhancement only. Every animated element renders fully visible when scripting is unavailable, so nothing on the page depends on motion running to be readable.
  • Colour contrast. Body text, headings and interface labels are set in blue black ink on cool bond paper, and in bond on the dark ground, at ratios chosen to meet the level AA thresholds, and colour is never the only way information is conveyed.
  • Text alternatives. Photographs that carry meaning have alt text describing what is in them. The seal, the hairline rules and the paper texture are marked as decorative so a screen reader passes over them.
  • Responsive, zoomable layouts. Pages reflow down to a small phone and support browser zoom and enlarged text without content being cut off or trapped in a horizontal scroll.
  • Labelled forms. Every form field carries a visible label that is programmatically associated with it, and errors are described in text rather than by colour alone.

This is ongoing, and it is not certified

No independent third party audit of this site has been carried out, and we do not claim one. Accessibility here is maintained by testing during development and by fixing what gets reported to us.

Automated tools catch some problems and miss others. A page can pass every automated check and still be awkward to use with a screen reader. We treat conformance as something to keep working at, and we expect to find and fix things over time.

If we become aware of a barrier we cannot fix quickly, we will say so, and we will offer another way to get the same information or complete the same task, usually by phone.

Content we do not control

Parts of this site depend on a third party. The embedded map on the location pages is served by an outside mapping service, and its keyboard behaviour, its contrast and its screen reader support are determined by that provider rather than by us.

Wherever that is the case, the same information is available in plain text on the same page. Every address, phone number and set of directions can be read and used without touching the map.

Tell us about a barrier

If any part of this website is difficult or impossible for you to use, we want to hear about it. A specific report is far more useful than a general one, so if you can, tell us the address of the page, what you were trying to do, and what happened instead. Mentioning your browser and any assistive technology you use helps as well.

Call Bakersfield on (661) 425-0570 or Valencia on (661) 425-0560 during office hours and our staff will take the details. You can also use the contact page on this site.

We will acknowledge your report and tell you what we intend to do about it. If the fix will take time, we will offer another way to get what you needed in the meantime.

If we do not get it right

Come back to us first. Most problems are quicker to solve directly, and a report that reaches the people who maintain the site gets fixed rather than filed.

If we do not resolve it, you keep every right available to you under the Americans with Disabilities Act and under California law, including the Unruh Civil Rights Act.

Questions about any of this

Ask us. We will answer in plain language, and if something on this page is unclear we would rather fix the page than explain it twice. Both direct lines and both addresses are at the foot of this page.

Contact the practice

Clear answers. A plan that makes sense.

Your consultation includes a thorough examination, review of the necessary X-rays, and a clear explanation of what we find. We'll walk you through your options, answer your questions, and help you understand what comes next.
